6th Grade Reporting Standards for Social Studies.

1. Use a variety of maps and atlases to gather and compare information.

2. Describe how people and technological achievements change a society.

3. Analyze historical events to understand the past.

4. Identify and explain a government's basic principles and how they are developed.

5. Explain how geography and natural resources affect a culture.

All assessments will be created to access one or more standards. A rubric has been designed with specific criteria that help students and teachers evaluate student performance and knowledge on each standard. (Advanced, Proficient, Basic, Minimal).

All 6th Graders will be learning general information about geography, and specific information about ancient civilizations and thier cultures. Ask your child what culture is, how it differs from family to family, town to town, or country to country. We will dicover how location, history, religions and more impact and influence each civilization.  (Mesopotamia, Egypt, and India will be the first units of study.)
